Still suffering for Christians in Sudan, the young woman Mariam Yahya Ibrahim has been sentenced to death for apostasy and adultery for having married a Christian man and having converted to Christianity, in flagrant violation of the Sharia, the Islamic law. When asked if she renounced her new faith, she replied she had committed no apostasy, because she was always a Christian. Mariam Yahya Ibrahim, 27, was raised by her Christian mother after her Muslim father had left when she was six years old.

Mariam has been in prison since February 17, 2014, along with her son of 20 months and is nearing the end of a second pregnancy. After the birth of the second son, she is due to be sentenced.
The news is disturbing and revealing of fundamentalism that grips the northern Sudanese society and justice in particular.
The case of Ibrahim has raised harsh criticism from human rights activists in Sudan and worldwide, who asked the Khartoum government to respect the freedom of religion.
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." - Proverbs 31:8-9
