FEAST OF VINCENT DE PAUL
'Teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart' (Ps 89[90]:12)
Only the wisdom that comes from God can save us from the follies of youth as well as the regret of old age, as the First Reading so eloquently teaches. It also helps us put others first.
St Vincent de Paul only gained wisdom of heart long after his ordination. Till then he was a rather worldly priest, eager to move in high society circles. However, later he was drawn to the poor, and decided to make them the center of his life. He also began to see his priesthood not as a career, but as a way to get closer to Jesus.
That' a wise recipe for us, too.
Let me do something in wisdom to meet the needs of a poor person today.
