Divorce has become almost fashionable today. People and relationships are like commodities to be used and discarded. Many find it easier to change spouses rather than change themselves!
In today's Gospel Jesus stresses the importance and sanctity of matrimony. He teaches that divorce is wrong, that marriage is forever. Why does he place such a high value on this sacrament?
We know that the family can be seen as a little domestic church - foundation of the large Church. When the family is under attack it means the entire Church is under attack.
The family is under attack from various quarters. One villain is of course the media, which routinely touts the 'virtue' of selfishness and greed. But quit often, other family members are just as responsible. They mistakenly still cling to and do not let go, or give space or respect to, the young couple - especially the daughter-in-law. More than ever the time has come to treasure and promote the age-old morals of concern, love sharing and sacrifice which were once in vogue in our Christian Families.
PRAYER: Lord help me always strive to promote family life and family activities, whether it is praying together or sharing meal or just having fun together.
