For
everything absolutely everything
above
and below, visible and invisible...
everything
got started in him and
finds
its purpose in him (Col 1, 16).
Human beings are
created to praise, reverence and serve God our Lord, and by means of doing this
to save our souls. What on earth we are
here for? What is the purpose of our life? What do I want to be? What should I
do with my life? What are my ambitions, my dreams for my future? We can answer
these questions without God. The Bible says, “It is God who directs the lives
of his creatures; everyone’s life is in his power (Rm 12, 2). Therefore every
human being is made for God and life is all about letting God use each one of
us for his purpose. The Bible says, “Obsession with self in these matters is a
dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free
life (2 Tim 2, 7). How do we know the
purpose of our life? It is only through revelation of God. God is the source of
our life. To discover the purpose of life, we need to turn to the Bible. The
Bible says, “It is in Christ we find out who we are and what we are living for
(Eph 1, 11). How do we discover our
identity and purpose in of life?
1.
It is through a relationship with
Christ. That relationship is established through prayer.
2.
God was thinking of us long before we
ever thought about him. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you and before
you were born, I consecrated you (Jer 1, 5).
3.
The purpose of our life fits into a much
larger, cosmic purpose that God has designed for eternity.
Hence
without God, life makes no sense.
